Individual therapy is a joint process between a therapist and an individual.

The purpose of individual therapy is to establish goals that will inspire change or improve quality of life.

People often seek therapy for help with issues that are hard to face alone. Individual therapy is also called therapy, psychotherapy, psychosocial therapy, talk therapy, and counseling.

Therapy can help people overcome obstacles to their well-being. It can increase positive feelings, such as compassion and self-esteem.

Therapy can help a person learn effective ways to handle difficult situations, make healthy decisions, and reaching goals.

Family Therapy

Family therapy is a type of psychological counseling (psychotherapy) that can help family members improve communication and resolve conflicts.

Family therapy is usually provided by a psychologist, clinical social worker or licensed therapist. These therapists have graduate or postgraduate degrees and may be credentialed by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).

Family therapy is often short term. It may include all family members or just those able or willing to participate. Your specific treatment plan will depend on your family’s situation. Group Therapy

Dealing with specific issues may cause isolation, and a feeling that you are alone in facing your problems.

Group counseling can help you to counteract isolation by assembling people with similar issues to enforce that difficulties are not specific to one person.

Group counseling is a form of therapy, which can be beneficial from shared experiences. Usually, it’s focused on a particular issue, like obsessive-compulsive disorder, anger management, bereavement etc. While a therapist usually manages the group, contributions from other members are considered valuable since all in the group share similar issues.

Couple Counseling & Relationship Issues

Every relationship has its ups and downs, but sometimes challenges grow too heavy to manage alone. Misunderstandings, communication breakdowns, or betrayal can leave couples feeling distant and unsure of how to move forward. At Enviro Coaching, coach Novena Riojas offers compassionate couples counseling to help partners rebuild trust, strengthen communication, and reconnect with each other.

Why Couples Seek Counseling

Couples counseling provides a supportive environment where both partners can be heard and understood. Common reasons couples reach out for therapy include:

  • Communication Issues: Arguments that go in circles, constant misunderstandings, or feeling unheard.
  • Conflict Resolution: Repeated disagreements that never get fully resolved.
  • Infidelity and Trust: Rebuilding connection and security after a breach of trust.
  • Intimacy Concerns: Emotional or physical distance that affects closeness.
  • Life Stressors: External pressures—such as finances, parenting, or career changes—that put strain on the relationship.

How Coaching Helps

A coach can help clients slow down reactive patterns and look at what drives conflict. At Envrio Coaching, we help clients identify communication habits, emotional triggers, unmet needs, and assumptions that keep relationships stuck. Coaching focuses on practical skill-building, honest reflection, and steps clients can use outside each session.

Novena Riojas uses a collaborative, skill-building approach designed to meet each couple’s unique needs. Sessions focus on:

  • Improving Communication: Learning to listen, express needs clearly, and respond with empathy.
  • Resolving Conflict: Finding healthy, constructive ways to address disagreements.
  • Rebuilding Trust: Developing a framework for honesty, transparency, and healing after betrayal.
  • Strengthening Intimacy: Restoring emotional and physical connection that supports a thriving partnership.

A Collaborative Path Forward

Envrio Coaching believes people can grow beyond the patterns that limit them. We create a supportive space for individuals and couples who want to understand themselves, strengthen relationships, and move through life transitions with more clarity. Coaching does not erase every challenge, but it can help clients respond with more awareness and confidence.

Improving Communication and Trust

Many relationship issues come from repeated miscommunication, defensiveness, avoidance, or fear-based reactions. They do not necessarily reflect a lack of care. We help clients build tools for direct conversation, emotional regulation, accountability, and repair after conflict. Over time, these skills can create more trust and reduce the pressure of unresolved tension.

Why Work with Novena Riojas at Enviro Coaching

With extensive experience in coaching couples, Novena creates a safe, non-judgmental space where both partners feel supported. Her approach emphasizes collaboration and growth, equipping couples with practical tools to overcome challenges and deepen their bond.

Trauma

Trauma is a word that describes an emotional response to a highly stressful situation. Every client is different in terms of how they respond to it, but one fact remains the same — trauma can interfere with your life in a number of ways. Fortunately, Novena Riojas, a licensed therapist at Envrio Coaching serving out of Hempstead, offers online therapy for people in New York.

How Trauma Occurs

Generally speaking, trauma arises when you’re unable to cope with a situation or experience because it causes either physical or emotional distress. Some examples of common causes of trauma include:

  • Losing a friend, family member, or pet
  • A physical injury
  • Struggling with a chronic/terminal illness
  • Undergoing physical or sexual assault
  • Suffering through abuse or negligence as a child

Signs of Trauma

People with trauma may experience anxiety or depression. You may experience anxiety every time you think of something associated with the event, and you might have distressing or unwanted memories of the situation that replay in your mind. In some cases, these memories are more pronounced and include flashbacks, which occur when you relive the event.

Other potential signs of trauma include:

  • Having nightmares about the event
  • Having memory lapses related to the event
  • Feeling ongoing negative emotions, like blame, shame, or guilt
  • Being jumpy or easily frightened
  • Experiencing emotional or physical reactions when faced with circumstances that remind you of the event
  • Practicing avoidance so you don’t have to think about the trauma
  • Experiencing paranoia or always feeling on guard
  • Having difficulty concentrating
  • Suffering from insomnia
  • Being irritable

How Therapy Can Help

There are two main types of therapy for trauma — eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

With EMDR, you will learn to reprocess a memory correctly, helping to relieve your distressing symptoms. When using this therapy, you deal with the memory or memories that congest your mind and hinder you from processing and healing.

Used alone or along with EMDR, CBT can help convert any negative thoughts or feelings into positive ones. As a result, you feel more in control over the feelings associated with the event. You’ll also learn coping mechanisms through CBT to help control anxiety associated with the event or situation.

Self Esteem Issues

At Envrio Coaching in Uniondale, NY, we help clients explore and rebuild their relationship with themselves. Low self-esteem can affect every part of life, from your relationships and career decisions to your emotional well-being and self-expression. Through compassionate and evidence-based therapy, we support clients in finding greater acceptance and love for who they are right now, while developing the confidence to grow into who they want to become.

Understanding Self-Esteem Issues

Healthy self-esteem is more than feeling good about oneself. It’s a balanced and realistic sense of worth. When it’s low, people often struggle with self-criticism, perfectionism, or fear of judgment. They may question their abilities, avoid new challenges, or compare themselves harshly to others. These feelings can be rooted in early experiences, trauma, or patterns of negative self-talk that have gone unexamined for years.

How Therapy Can Help Build Acceptance and Love

In self-esteem counseling, Envrio Coaching helps clients identify the thoughts and beliefs that hold them back from self-acceptance. Using a blend of insight-oriented and practical strategies, sessions may focus on understanding where these patterns began, reframing internal dialogue, and recognizing personal strengths. Over time, clients learn to treat themselves with the same compassion and respect they offer others.

At Envrio Coaching, we believe in uncovering the genuine sense of worth that already exists. Through this process, clients begin to feel more grounded in who they are, become more accepting of any “imperfections”, and feel more capable of giving and receiving love authentically.

Counseling for Confidence and Growth

Whether self-esteem issues appear as chronic self-doubt, difficulty setting boundaries, or a sense of “never being enough,” Envrio coaching provides a supportive framework that allows you to explore your challenges without judgment. Our counseling approach encourages clients to reconnect with their values, celebrate small victories, and build trust in their own judgment. As your confidence grows, so does your ability to pursue goals, form healthy relationships, and experience life with greater fulfillment.
